So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
