Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 into My Paradise. 30
