The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
