The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
