Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 He said: 'My nation, I am a clear warner for you. 2 "That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me: 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 but the more I called, the farther they fled. 6 "And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 Then verily I have called unto them publicly 8 Then verily I spake unto them openly and secretly. I also addressed them. 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 He will send down upon you the cloud, pouring down abundance of rain: 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 What is the matter with you that you fear not the greatness of Allah? 13 And indeed He has created you through various grades: 14 See you not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, 15 and made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp, 16 And Allah has made you grow out of the earth as a growth: 17 He will make you return to it and then take you out of it again. 18 how God has spread the earth out for you 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
