Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
