A crowd of earlier generations 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 And say: "We have fallen into debt; 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
