He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
