Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
