۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
