The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none to avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
