Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
