Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
