The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
