He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
