The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
