No! By the moon 32 and the night when it retreats 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
