A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
