Those who disbelieved in Allah's signs and in meeting Him, it is they who have despaired of My Mercy; it is they for whom a painful chastisement lies ahead. 23 So nothing was the answer of [Ibrahim's (Abraham)] people except that they said: "Kill him or burn him." Then Allah saved him from the fire. Verily, in this are indeed signs for a people who believe. 24 He said: "You have taken to idols through mutual affection in this life, in place of God, but on the Day of Resurrection you will disown and curse each other, and your abode will be Hell, and you will have none to help you." 25 ۞ Then Lot believed in him; and (Abraham) said: "I will separate myself and take refuge in my Lord. Surely He is all-mighty and all-wise." 26 And [as for Abraham,] We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob, and caused prophethood and revelation to continue among his offspring. And We vouchsafed him his reward in this world; and verily, in the life to come [too] he shall find himself among the righteous. 27 And (remember) Lot when he said to his people: "You indulge in lecherous acts which none of the creatures had done before you. 28 What! do you come to the males and commit robbery on the highway, and you commit evil deeds in your assemblies? But nothing was the answer of his people except that they said: Bring on us Allah's punishment, if you are one of the truthful. 29 He said: My Lord! Give me victory over folk who work corruption. 30
