The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
