The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 and snatched people up as though they were stumps of uprooted palmtrees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
