He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
