Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
