Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware, 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 To warn. For We are never unjust. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), warn your closest relatives. 214 And lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 And that they say that which they do not do, 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
