And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 no caring friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
