Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
