And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead, and become dust and bones, you shall be brought forth? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him. 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No community can anticipate their term, nor can they lay behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
