In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
