The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
