Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, "Surely this man is a skilful sorcerer. 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Detain him and his brother for a while and send forth heralds to the cities 36 and summon every skillful magician from all the cities." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 and the people were told, "Will you also gather together, 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 Then, when the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, they said: 'Shall we receive a wage if we win' 41 He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]." 42 Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.' 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs, and said, "By Pharaoh's honour, we shall surely win." 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 Then the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 46 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one. 49 They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord, 50 We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe." 51
