He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
