He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
