The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the Great News 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
