The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
