The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
