Nay, by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 About the criminals, 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
