Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
