Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
