The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
