The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
