The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
