He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
