The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
