He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
