The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
