The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
