The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
