The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 and taught to him 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
