The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
