The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
