The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
